SUMMARY

Responsible for coordinating backhauls and returns for over-the-road fleet operations and outside carriers. Assist with the outbound dispatch planning process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Coordinate all backhaul loads according to availability of trucks, amount of freight, and timing factors. Includes scheduling pickup and delivery appointments.

Responsible for ensuring back haul loads fit into the client's model for size, origin and compatibility with other freight.

Ensure that the client is compensated fairly for back haul loads. Negotiate rates to achieve maximum profitability.

Track and trace inbound shipments for delivery information for manufacturing facilities and Procurement.

Monitor detention time and other accessorials requested from carriers to minimize costs. Collaborate with Procurement to charge back Vendors for excessive accessorials.

Explore and/or solicit new opportunities to increase backhaul revenue.

Assist in researching and implementing new technology to assist Transportation operations.

 

Responsible for taking after-hours calls and emails and to propose solutions.

 

Assist with the coordination of materials needed for special events, off-site activities, donations and other company needs. Responsible for other duties assigned by supervision and management.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School degree required. Knowledge of DOT Driver Regulations and some knowledge of transportation management systems preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Basic knowledge of software to log driver hours-of-service, SAP, Excel, Word, E-mail, Voice mail, and the Internet.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where on limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
