General Summary Description

The General Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the operation, repair, and preventative maintenance of all utility systems, as well as the preventative maintenance and repair of all production equipment.  The General Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for the operation, repair, and preventative maintenance of all utility systems, including boilers, chillers, water systems, air compressors, air handlers, desiccant dryers, piping/plumbing, waste water, etc.


Duties /Responsibilities

  • Monitors all utility systems on routine basis for equipment condition, malfunctions, and/or maintenance
  • Performs preventative maintenance on utility systems as to meet FDA/GMP regulations
  • Completes appropriate documentation on work orders, PMs, and material orders
  • Monitors cleanliness of work areas and checks for safety hazards
  • Follows all SOPS and regulation and enforce in Mechanical Services department
  • Maintains good documentation practices
  • Assembles, assists in the set-up, change over, operation and preventative maintenance on various pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment
  • Maintains equipment in operating condition according to FDA/government regulations
  • Follows gowning SOP when entering production area
  • Mounts and connects auxiliary, mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic or hydraulic equipment
  • Performs, evaluates, and submits revisions to PMs to improve equipment reliability
  • Identifies, sources, and orders wear and spare parts for inventory
  • Checks water supply for hardness, chlorine content and proper operation
  • Checks boilers for appropriate pressure and any sign of leaks
  • Supervises outside contractors performing similar work as necessary
  • Supports maintenance initiatives such as spare parts inventory and electronic equipment documentation
  • Evaluates existing utility systems and initiates changes to enhance operation and/or increase reliability
  • Mounts and connects auxiliary, mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic or hydraulic equipment
  • Installs moving parts, such as shafts, levers, or bearings, and tests free movement
  • Repairs salvageable mechanical parts of pharmaceutical equipment
  • Troubleshoots and repairs PLC and control logic on pharmaceutical equipment
  • Listens to equipment to identify equipment that is not working within specifications
  • Dismantles equipment using hand tools such as hacksaw, file, reamer, wrench, and screwdriver
  • Inspects parts to determine salvage ability or method of repairing or reworking parts
  • Prepares and operates metal-working tools, such as engine lathes, milling, drilling, grinding to repair parts
  • Verifies dimensions and tolerances, using blueprints, scale, and precision-measuring instruments
  • Reassembles parts using hand and power tools
  • Performs, evaluates, and submits revisions to PMs to improve equipment reliability
  • Willing to work overtime (extended shifts and weekends) as needed
  • Supports off hours calls by being available
  • Maintains good documentation practices
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Direction Received:           Organize own work with very little direction

Analytical Requirements: Assignments frequently involve decisions based on a wide knowledge of many factors where application of advanced or technical concepts are pedominantly required

Decisions and Judgment:  No authority to commit the organization in negotiations or with respect to finances

Initiative:                           Independent action within an established field is required; new procedures and new approaches to problems must be assigned

 

 

 

 

 


Minimum Qualifications

A High School Diploma and 5-6 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.  Electrical, HVAC, and/or Mechanical experience preferred.
